Plan it or panic!

Remember when we were little kids and used to plan our weddings, fantasizing it to be really grand? Wishing to make it a perfect one? Those dreams flew away but aspirations, they keep burning like fire in our bellies. All of us aspire to make that one special moment picture perfect, to cherish our entire lives. A lot of people have started opting for destination weddings for the very same reason.

It requires a lot of smart planning and organization! Read on as we have marked some important points to remember for a destination wedding.

Security

It gets important in terms of security when it comes to travelling to a new location, be it for their luggage, valuables or just the feeling of being taken care of. Make sure you call ahead to confirm your hotel has in-room safes, or buy an extra set of luggage locks!

Formalities

A few countries require some assurance and paperwork which to be necessarily completed earlier so these should be kept in mind and should be finished accordingly. Some countries require vaccinations or background vouching, while others have age limits and residency rules, and even tougher parameters. No matter where you go to get married, it is recommended that you arrive five days in advance to have documents translated, and apply for the necessary paperwork.

Food

When there’s food, there’s always a fight! Avoid last minute ruckus and keep in mind what your family likes and dislikes. As part of the wedding invitation, either tell the guests what they are going to be eating or ask for any special dietary needs. By doing this well in advance, you and your guests can make the appropriate accommodations without going through any panic.

Attendance

Make sure everyone can reach the venue comfortably. You will need to work out financial constraints or other issues, like getting a work leave or postponing business meetings.Check with airlines and hotels for group deals, who may offer a discounted rate for a large group traveling together.

Invitation Insight

While inviting guests, keep in mind that not as many people will be able to come to a destination wedding. Instead of sending invitations to everyone, invite the small group of family and friends you know will come, and then send wedding announcements to everyone else. Announcements will not make people feel obligated to take an expensive trip. If you want to celebrate with everyone who can’t come, plan a more casual party for when you return from your honeymoon.

‘Plan B’

Hope for the best but plan for the worst! Always be ready with an alternative plan and keep it ready accordingly. While that may not always be easy with destination weddings, understand the lay of the land and identify some of the common natural issues that could arise. Find out if the island you are visiting is prone to monsoons, or where to go if your guests get food poisoning.

A little extra preparation can be the difference between a dream wedding and a nightmare. Be sure you have only good memories of your special day!
